WebMail
WebMail is the first of two different web interfaces with the look
and feel of Microsoft Outlook. All collaboration features are
available from the WebMail, which makes it as a great online
alternative to desktop application. WebMail can run in a secure
mode, where connection is encrypted using SSL.
Web Mail supports
the following browsers:
- Internet Explorer 6+
- Firefox 1.5+
- Safari 1.3+
Like a desktop messaging applications, WebMail lets you view and
manage emails, appointments, contacts, notes and tasks. WebMail
automatically checks for new messages without requiring the user to
refresh the screen or click on any button. Even when a user leaves
a WebMail window unattended, new incoming messages will pop-up in
the inbox.
To move email messages between folders just drag the message and
drop it to another folder. Many WebMail actions are accessible via
the mouse's right-click menu. To make the WebMail experience even
faster, keyboard shortcuts (such as Ctrl+K, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, F7,
Delete etc.) are available for the most frequent actions. The
integrated multilingual spell checker allows you add your own
words or expressions in addition to its extensive dictionary.
You can access and manage your address book from WebMail - share
calendars with other ExpertSpace.net users or use other people's
shared calendars. You can make appointments with colleagues and check
their availability. When an event or appointment is due, WebMail
pops up an event reminder. Therefore no important event is ever
missed, even when connected from a remote location.
WebMail Mini
WebMail Mini is a simplified version of WebMail. It is optimized
for:
- Slow Internet connection
- Older browsers where JavaScript and CSS is not
well-supported
- Text mode based browsers, such as Lynx or Links
- Mobile PDA and Smartphone devices, such as the Palm Treo,
Pocket PC or BlackBerry.
WebMail Mini is suitable rather for
basic usage of mail and contact on the go.
Microsoft Outlook 2000/2003/XP/2007 in online mode
Next component of integration is native support for Microsoft
Outlook. It requires an Outlook Connector to be installed on the
desktop to open all collaboration features of Outlook. Your computer
must be connected to the Internet since it does not store any
information locally.
Technically, Outlook Connector is a MAPI provider that replaces
the MAPI provider of Microsoft Outlook. Instead of connecting to
Microsoft Exchange Server, Outlook connects directly to the
ExpertSpace.net server allowing you to access your email,
appointments, contacts, tasks, notes, shared and public folders.
Microsoft Outlook 2000/2003/XP/2007 in offline mode
Microsoft Outlook in offline mode requires Synchronization
Plug-in. It is designed for notebook users who need offline access
to their appointments, contacts and notes in Outlook.
Synchronization Plug-in does not offer all of the same integration
with Microsoft Outlook that the Outlook Connector provides. Outlook
Connector and Synchronization Plug-in cannot be used concurrently.
Synchronization Plug-in provides only offline synchronization for
personal contacts, appointments and notes in Microsoft Outlook and
does not deal with email at all. For email you must use a IMAP
account to have their email stored locally. IMAP account allows mail
to be stored in the server and synchronized back to the client.
Wireless access
You can use direct over-the-air synchronization with Outlook
Mobile and VersaMail via the ActiveSync protocol. It supports Direct
Push, Email, Calendar, Contacts and Tasks applications on the mobile
devices without the third part software. So it is not necessary to
connect it to a desktop synchronization application. Using Direct Push
email technology, new email, meeting invitations, and event changes
are immediately pushed over-the-air to your mobile device without
having to wait for a manual or scheduled synchronization. The server
also allows BlackBerry owners sending and receiving email directly
from their devices and take advantage of push-based, over-the-air
messaging.
Tested mobile platforms:
- Windows Mobile 2002
- Windows Mobile 2003
- Windows Mobile 2003 SE
- Windows Mobile 5.0
- Windows Mobile 5.0 with AKU2 (Messaging and Security Feature Pack)
- Windows Mobile 6.0
- Palm Treo 650, 700w and 750v, 680 and 700p
- Nokia Eseries
- SonyEricsson M600and P990i
Microsoft Entourage X/2004 on Mac OS X
This component designed for Mac users and provides native support
for Microsoft Entourage. Once the account is created, no further
configuration is required. The server takes all advantages of the
existing interface for Microsoft Exchange in Microsoft Entourage,
allowing you to connect your application as if they were talking to
the Microsoft Exchange Server.
And combination of Apple Mail, Apple Address Book and Apple iCal
applications give a nice alternative to Microsoft Entourage. Apple
Mail allows displaying of calendar and contact folders, and iCal
used for management of calendars. Apple Address Book used as a
calendar and contact manager.
iSync Connector allows synchronization of local calendars in Apple iCal and of local contacts in Apple Address Book with your message store on the server.
IMAP/SMTP access
You can use any other IMAP-compatible email applications to connect them
to your account:
Microsoft Outlook Express, KDE Kontact, Mozilla Thunderbird etc. on
the desktops, and VersaMail and ChatterEmail on handheld devices.
